Sue - I have thought that on more than one occasion so far during the journey (indeed I may be thinking it right now!!)

But if I thought they were that difficult, I would have changed my position on hints a long time ago - and there are plenty of people on here (you included I would hope) who know that I have helped quite a lot.

The thing is though, that they aren't difficult. Every single one without exception is so easy that you can't believe you didn't see it straight away when you do solve it.

It's very difficult to discuss this in an open forum, but I would really like to know what your problem is right now. If you are frustrated by one particular puzzle then consider that it took me weeks before I got the key insight, but literally ten minutes to actually crack it (and I believe that Gauntlet will attest to the same thing.)

I am loving the puzzles but I dread the counting.....

I am forever miscounting and they take me ages. :( :(

Try marking out every 5th or 10th box around the rim and use them as a guide to count the boxes. I found this useful especially when the numbers started getting large :!:

I also found it necessary to mark off - I did it in fives, but it's a good idea to mark them at 10 also (in another colour) - some of the later pages do have big numbers!
Not that this meant that I still counted perfectly every time.... :( It is still all too easy to lose count, and we have all suffered from this
I am afraid it calls for a lot of patience...... but you are not alone!

Shhhh. You'll scare them away

Try making a paper ruler as well - that can speed things up.

I used the method of marking off in tens on page 12!

The only problem was that I marked some nines and elevens too!

Yes, that is the best way - then you already have the tens marked on it and won't make mistakes counting fresh every tiime. Have one for along the top and bottom and another for down the sides.

Thanks for the tips everyone :D

Maybe it won't be so tedious now

I have decided to have a new state of mind when tackling the runes. :D

Instead of seeing a ToB and thinking 'Oh no not another one', I will now think 'Oh well. Maybe it will improve my brain power.'

I don't know if this is the right way of thinking about the runes, but I'm more likely to enjoy doing them if I'm optimistic.

I will say that this method doesn't work on the Pompeii Forum. No matter how hard I try, I can't convince myself that they will do anything to make my brain larger, only intimidate it until it disappears completely!

That's definitely a good approach :D It is indeed mind-expanding as the puzzles get more complex  As for the Forum.... this needs patience and persistence, as well as brain power. At least the logic that you need to apply to it is straightforward (unlike the twists and turns in ToB!)

I don't think the ToB do improve my brain power any more! I'm definitely improving on sudokus though. They seem to be getting easier and easier...

...I'm sure thats not supposed to happen!?
